Started in fall 2016 by senior theater major and environmental studies minor Christine Rubel, Green Ambassadors is a student-driven initiative providing in-person sustainability education for students, staff and faculty at KSU.
Green Ambassadors provide education through three different formats:
- 15 minute presentations for classrooms or departments;
- 20 - 40 minute campus sustainability tours; and
- Tabling at special events, such as the weekly Farmers Market.
By the end of the first semester, Christine had already provided sustainability education to over 600 people and had trained an incoming cohort of Green Ambassadors and Green Ambassador Leaders. Additionally, this program was highlighted at the Georgia Campus Sustainability Network, where it won the student poster competition.
The spring 2017 cohort is made up of ten students participating in the Green Ambassadors program. These students come from both campuses and represent a range of different majors, including Culinary Sustainability and Hospitality, Engineering, Integrative Studies, Business, and Textiles.
